When I think of the new year, I think about what I'm going to look for as well as what I'm not going to look for. Thinking about what I said to a student last week about mixing and the importance of turning instruments down instead of up to clean up a mix. The same philosophy applies to life: you don't need everything turned up and loud in your life. Sometimes, it's about what's not there that makes it beautiful. Strange but true; the note you don't play is what makes the song special. Make your life special by closing some doors.
